HUMANITY: the quality of being humane; kindness; benevolence.
“It may be, it just may be, that life as we know it with its humanity is more unique than many have thought.” – Lyndon B. Johnson
If there is a silver lining in what our world, our country and our communities are going through as the COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) wreaks havoc on people’s health, jobs, businesses and routines, it is that we have come together like never before. It has been slightly more than two weeks since the United States was declared to be in a state of emergency. Since then fear has set in, but the power of humanity and human kindness has proven to far out-weigh it.
It seems that for every shocking news story, there is another to supplement that warms our hearts. The goal is to be better once this is over – that goal feels attainable and likely.
At Phoenix Children’s Hospital we remain focused on our patients who need us and the safety of them, their families and our staff. While we adjust on a day-to-day basis; limiting visitors, updating protocol and planning ahead – we are in awe of how some of our corporate friends are responding and jumping in for our community.
- Along with Walmart and Sam’s Clubs across North America staying open for people to come in and purchase necessary items, Walmart also has committed to giving out $25M worth of emergency grants to organizations that are struggling to provide for their community.
- Costco is dealing with extra-busy stores and high product demand while the work around-the-clock to keep their doors open and ensure their employees and customers are safe.
- Local Ace Hardwares have donated much-needed N95 masks to Phoenix Children’s Hospital employees.
- Nationally, Panda Express is offering to provide meals to frontline hospital employees who are working in places that are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients.
There are never enough “thank yous” to the individuals who are on the frontline of this pandemic. As always, we are so appreciative of all the staff, corporate partners and individuals who support the needs of Phoenix Children’s and our community.
